Dungeons & Dragons Camp A: “Eldritch Knights’ Quest”

Play as fantasy heroes, cast spells, get into sword battles, disarm traps, solve puzzles, battle monsters, and of course, seek treasure hoards - like those of… Dragons! These are all part of the world’s greatest role-playing game, D&D! Campers will learn about the revised ‘5th Edition’ D&D rules within a 5 day campaign. This camp is a good fit for those just becoming interested in D&D, or those with beginner-to-intermediate experience. Campers will choose from pre-generated characters (and customize them) on the first day; then we set out for adventure, exploration, & quests!

This is a campaign over 4 days, in which we’ll also cover some of the changes in the new rules, and include some hot tips & advice for up-&-coming Dungeon Masters while playing.

This 4 day camp will introduce games, comedic theatre knowledge, and especially, improvisation skills! Theatre improv games and shows are hilarious, creative, and build confidence! We’ll spend these days making our own cast and learning the ropes of foundational exercises like “Yes, And”, “Two Line Vocabulary”, “Mixed up Fairy Tales”, and other structures & techniques. With the simple ingredients of characters, places, timing, setting, & emotion, you’ll learn we can make up ANY thing to build a skit or even an entire play!

Magic:TG players: Choose how you want to use this camp: for gruel & duel, trades, or learn more about the king of the CCG’s! Play for fun, and share strategies - you’ve learned all the tricks, cards, sets, mechanics - now play non-stop duels & group games each day! Learn deck building & effective balancing and synergy methods.
Camp features theme days to try out a variety of formats & variants, including Commander, Pauper, ManaRush, and more! Be prepared to change up tables, players, and formats for variety! We’ll enjoy delving into game design, card values, and the collectible, amazing art of M:TG. Camp offers occasional card giveaways, in-class micro-tourneys, & ‘life counters’. Sophie Otness, Three Dragons alumni and award-winning choir/vocalist, leads this camp. We’ll also build lyrics, combine melody & harmony, and may even perform at the end of the week! Participants will be the stars of the stage! We’ll review and choose fun-to-sing favorites from shows/films like Wicked, Moana 1/2, Encanto, Greatest Showman, Lion King, Mamma Mia, & Hamilton! Young performing artists will grow their confidence and let their imaginations shine as we sing, dance, and act some musical theatre. Games, teamwork, and theatre production design may all be part of setting this stage! Educators are experienced theatre artists, including longtime TDA summer camp educator Sophie Otness (& alumni student of our programs). Campers/cast members may work on songs or dances from different musicals. Outside daily recess will be our ‘intermission’ each day, so pack a sack lunch and wear clothes you can move in!

Welcome DM’s and future DMs! We’ll play a small one-off Dungeons & Dragons adventure together while also discussing and learning about the craft of being a very good DM! These core talents include: freeing your imagination to improvise; matching your campaign to your players; creating a sense of awe; building your theatrical skills to portray NPC characters and roleplay their choices & voices; drawing clear maps; and arbitrating fair interpretations of the rules. This week of DM Academy focuses on the DM’s job involving world building and creating monsters for your heroes. We’ll delve into plot, pace, encounter design, town design, and building a truly inspiring nemesis! We’ll also explore the changes that have come with the new revised 5.24 rulebooks!
Learn some of the table/house rules that make ANY D&D group better; experiment with & playtest homebrew rules; and learn several proven tricks/rules that improve the game! Field games, Crafts, Outdoor and Nature-based fun! ‘Be Prepared’ to get wonderfully wet in this mostly-outdoors summertime camp that features traditional merit badge accomplishments, and is now infused with a water-play theme, featuring Seattle Center International Fountain, squirters, and water-balloons! Our troop will share all the best parts of classic Summer camp: games (wet & dry), lanyard braiding & other handcrafts, bubbles, and more! Patrol around the nearby park campus on scavenger hunts & obstacle courses, and enjoy storytime in the Summer sun! This camp’s motto emphasizes fun & friends, and you’ll learn a lot, too - Scout’s Honor! Please note: Campers must be self-sufficient in a camp setting (esp. with lunch and dressing themselves), bring appropriate gear: a swimsuit, a spare change of dry clothes, and 2 towels.

TDA CAMP POLICIES:
:: Every student must bring weather-appropriate clothing (rain gear for chance of rain days), a water bottle, a picnic blanket or extralarge towel, a snack, a backpack or shoulder bag in which to carry their own things - labeled with their name.
:: All campers signed up for a full day of camps need to bring a sack lunch (and we recommend a separate snack/lunch, too, for half day camps as well!).
:: Contact us ASAP if you’re running late or have a day-of concern.
:: Parents/guardians must notify us at the time of registration of any allergy or other concerns.
:: Three Dragons cannot administer or manage medications. However, please do send your child with an extra EPIPEN for the camp backpack, if their allergies require the need for one, so we have a spare for emergency/first-aid use.
:: Phones/devices/smartwatches may need to stay in backpacks during camp.
Cancellations / Camp Cancellation & refunding policy:
All camp withdrawals/cancellations incur a $50 admin fee.
- Camp withdrawals with more than 15 days notice = partial tuition refund available; 50%, minus the admin fee.
- Camp withdrawals/cancellations with 30 days or more notice = tuition is refundable, minus the admin fee.
- Tuition is nonrefundable for all cancellations/withdrawals with 15 or fewer days advance notice.
A note about TDA’s truly Child-Centered learning environment:
:: Three Dragons offers educational & creative/recreational camps & classes, and is not able to offer aftercare, before-care, nor any form of childcare*. Campers must be self-sufficient and voluntarily opting-in to camps. Parents and other guests are not permitted to join the camp. Campers who request to not participate or to go home, will be accommodated & sent home. (* sorry, these educational fine arts & theatre-based camps are not valid for IRS credits or exemptions).

Locations: Uptown neighborhood and Seattle Center: Summer Camps will be held in our new classroom in On The Boards’ Center for the Performing Arts building in the Uptown neighborhood (104 West Roy Street). Recess and outdoors camps (like Merit Badge) will include the nearby Seattle Center campus. Recess may include nearby parks (including but not limited to Counterbalance Park & Bayview Playground).
